Slow sites at Dreamhost
Recently I wrote about the monitoring services from mon.itor.us that I use.
As I shifted the last of my sites from Dreamhost to a VPS I was wondering about some of the values I was seeing. For example here’s a fairly normal day in the life of a wordpress site hosted at Dreamhost.
Novel gift wrapping
So it’s my birthday today, yay!
One of my brothers had novel way of addressing his present to me, neat!
Wire Antenna
Living in suburbia doesn’t give you a huge number of options for antennas on HF. When I was at my parents earlier in the week I collected a bunch of wire dipoles that I used to have hanging in the sky.
I’ve hung up what was a 15m dipole in a little V behind the garage, hopefully nobody will lose a head when walking past
Running about 40m of RG58 just to go about 10 feet, I better find a smaller length soon.
Can’t hear a lot, definitely can’t TX, SWR is waaay over the top according to the 857D.
Baby Tax?
Some random professor with too much time on his hands:
“Every newborn baby in Australia represents a potent source of greenhouse gas emissions for an average of 80 years, … a ‘baby levy’ in the form of a carbon tax should apply, in line with the ‘polluter pays’ principle.”
mmm we’ll have to stop at two then
Don’t you just love the Internet where we can all have an opinion, no matter how outlandishly obsurd.

Facebook taking up your time?
Got pesky friends trying to talk to you on old school email? Here’s a good pic to send them!

I made it using one of the lolcat generator sites ![]()
