Lightning at Sunset

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Video: Panasonic LX3
Photos: Canon 50D

Some video and pics of lightning last night up near my mum’s place. In some of the footage you can hear the 50D shutter when I was taking pics :)

In the first few clips the lightning is towards the left hand side, later on it’s towards the middle. Don’t blink, you’ll probably miss it.

Larger version of the above video is here should fill most screens :-)

Unfortunately the video suffers a bit from the whole conversion process LX3 -> iMovie -> Smugmug -> Output.

To give you an idea of the video output on the LX3, one of the original clips is here.

300d gone for repairs

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Yesterday after work I dropped my broken 300d off to Diamonds Camera in Rundle Street. It’s now on it’s way to Canon for a check and quote on a fix.

If I don’t choose to go ahead with the fix, it’s still $60 for the quote, mmm. In the mean time I’ve been looking around an the options available, definitely some nice new cameras around.

Just have to keep waiting :-|

Experiments in HDR

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

I’ve had a crack at HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography a couple of times over the last few months.

The idea is that you take multiple pictures of the same scene bracketed at different settings, ie. plus or minus 1 Fstop. You then combine all the images together with something like Photomatix and maybe tweak things up a bit.

Once the images are combined you should get something that looks better than you could take in a single image. It’s also bit of an art form where people come up with all sorts of wacky images :-)

Anyway here’s one I took and put together on the weekend, the last day of Autumn.

More HDR experiments over here, will see what else I can try when I get some time.
